10 out of 10 for Gordon Burn’s tribute to Patrick Caulfield in the Guardian today. An evocative piece that warms the heart, it brought home the loss of Caulfield who died in 2005 aged 69.

Gordon Burn tells the story with great affection and draws the reader into Caulfield’s solitary life as a loner with a taste for the drink, his love of the city and his distaste for the countryside.
