Gilbert & George & Patricia

Gilbert and GeorgeWhilst researching their new exhibition at the White Cube gallery in Hoxton, I read for the first time about George’s wife and family. Apparently George married Patricia Stevens in 1967, the same year he met Gilbert, and has two children, Sunny and Rayne. This is a facinating piece by Jack Malvern in today’s Times – and an essential read for any G&G fan.

The exhibition, Sonofagod: Was Jesus Heterosexual? is described on the White Cube website as “Lustrous, ornate, pictorially complex, vividly coloured, yet suffused with tenebrous solemnity, the SONOFAGOD PICTURES have all of the dramatic visual impact which one might expect to find in neo-Gothic medievalism…”

At White Cube until 25th February.

It’s definitely Gilbert and George week in the media with three good pieces (including two interviews):

“Profanity fair?” by Guy Dammann in the Guardian here

” Gilbert & George ask: ‘Was Jesus heterosexual?’” by Louise Jury in the Independent here

” At home with art’s oddest couple ” by Cassandra Jardine in the Telegraph here

One response to “Gilbert & George & Patricia”

  1. Caniman says:

Well Jesus did hang around around with a bunch of blokes. All of them not wearing too much at all. So it does make you wonder? The Church is dominated by men. The Church leaders in schools are always getting themselves into trouble with non hetrosexual activities. Could be? There was no closets back then however for him to come out of.
